Open a document you can edit
Open your PDF in Folio on Windows. Keep a backup before changing an important document. A scanned page may need OCR; a password-protected file may require its opening password.
Edit and review the text
Use the text-editing tools to select detected text and make a small correction. Check the surrounding words, spacing and page layout. If text cannot be selected, check whether the page is a scan rather than adding repeated text overlays.
Choose how to save
Save a copy to preserve the source. Saving over the original replaces that file, so only choose it when you intend to overwrite it and have write access. Reopen the saved PDF to review the final result before sharing.

Core PDF processing stays on your Windows device. Folio does not upload document content to Folio servers.
Why can’t I select or edit the text in my PDF?
The page may be an image, the text may use unsupported font encoding, or the document may have restrictions. For a scan, OCR can recognize text, but recognition does not guarantee that every layout becomes directly editable. Check the recognized text before using it. Read the OCR guide.
Should I save the original PDF or a copy?
Use a copy when you want to keep the original unchanged, compare versions or preserve a signed source. Saving over the original replaces the source file. If the file is read-only or stored in a location you cannot write to, save a copy in a writable folder. Save options depend on the installed app version.
How do I make a larger rewrite?
For substantial changes, converting to Word may be more practical than editing individual text elements. Review the exported layout and make corrections before creating your final PDF. Scans and complex tables can require extra cleanup. Explore PDF-to-Word conversion.
Can I edit a password-protected PDF?
You need authorization to edit the document and any required opening password. An encrypted PDF cannot be assumed to open without its password. If you do not have it, ask the document owner for the password or an editable copy.
Does covering text remove sensitive information?
No. Covering text or placing new text over it is not secure redaction; underlying content may remain recoverable. Use the dedicated redaction workflow and review the sanitized output before sharing sensitive documents.
Will editing preserve a digital signature?
Changing a digitally signed PDF can invalidate its signature. Preserve the signed original and work on a separate copy if changes are needed; arrange a new signature for the revised document when appropriate.
Does Folio work on Windows 11?
Yes. Folio PDF Studio supports Windows 10 and Windows 11 and is distributed through Microsoft Store.
Is Folio a browser-based PDF editor?
